Journées de la culture 2025: Studio visit with Christine Major

September 27th, 2025

Discover the studio of artist Christine Major, located just a few steps from our museum in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve! Organized by the Guido Molinari Foundation for the Journées de la culture, this activity offers a simple and friendly visit to the artist’s creative space. Learn more about the painter’s preferred methods, discover her tools, her work environment, and above all, take the opportunity to ask her all your questions.

Christine Major is an artist and a professor at the UQAM School of Visual and Media Arts. Her painting practice is engaged, marked by identity and feminist issues related to expression in the information age. She provides a critical look at the role of images in the media, their impacts on body representation. By opening breaches in the media spectacle, she creates interconnections between arts, politics, and culture. She has presented over twenty solo exhibitions in Canada and has been a speaker in various Canadian contexts. In her current work, she is interested in the instability of painting. The paintings in this new series are adaptable and dissonant in order to think about the image differently: as a place of passage, dissolution, and escape.

The tour will last approximately one hour (1h). It will be conducted in French, but questions in English are welcome.
