A unique opportunity to get behind the scenes and immerse yourself in the working environment of our local artists!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Guido Molinari Foundation, acting as a link between creation and art, invites you to take an exclusive look at the studio of the winner of the prestigious Sobey Art Award 2024: <strong>Nico Williams<\/strong>! A whispered translation option will be available on site for those who wish.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nico Williams, \u1405\u144c\u14a5\u1423 <\/strong>(b. 1989) is a member of Aamjiwnaang First Nation (Anishinaabe), currently living and working in Tiohti\u00e0:ke\/Montr\u00e9al. In 2021, he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Concordia University. He has a multidisciplinary and, often collaborative, practice that is centred around sculptural beadwork. Williams is active within the urban Indigenous Montr\u00e9al Arts community and a member of the Contemporary Geometric Beadwork research team. He has taught workshops at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the McCord Stewart Museum, Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, and the University of Toronto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021, he was awarded the prestigious Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Fellowship in Contemporary Art. His work has been shown internationally and across Canada, including at the Art Gallery of Hamilton (2023), the MacKenzie Art Gallery (2022), Mus\u00e9e d\u2019art contemporain de Montr\u00e9al (2021), Mus\u00e9e des beaux-arts Montr\u00e9al (2019), PHI Foundation for Contemporary Art (2023), and the recent group exhibition, Indian Theater: Native Performance, Art, and Self-Determination since 1969, at the Hessel Museum of Art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Williams\u2019 practice has been featured by National Geographic (2018) and CBC (2021) and is housed in prominent public collections, including Mus\u00e9e des beaux-arts de Montr\u00e9al, Mus\u00e9e d\u2019art contemporain de Montr\u00e9al, The Art Gallery of Ontario, Archives Nationales du Qu\u00e9bec, the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation, and the Royal Bank of Canada Art Collection.
